Realization Of The Week: Gratitude Is A Choice

I’m at my home, relaxing on the couch. In Switzerland, one of the safest countries on the planet. Everything points toward that, at this moment, I am very, very safe.

But my mind doesn’t think so.

Problem upon problem. No solutions. It seems my mind loves sulking in its own lies.

In this eruption of worries, I decided to try something that might give me hold: gratitude.

Instead of focusing on what’s missing, I started focusing on what I have.

Suddenly, my chest loosens. I breathe easier. The shallowness disappears and deep inhales take their place.

It’s such trite wisdom. So trite because it works.

We tend to recognize all the curses that were laid upon us (more of them imagined than real) than the blessings we have.

If you’re in good health, do you realize how precious this is? Yet we take it for granted, while some people would consider their prayers answered if they could be half as healthy as you are now.

That’s why I urge you: find something to be thankful for today. You will see that gratitude is a tidal wave that can wash your sorrows away.

Nothing changed on that couch in Switzerland, yet everything did.
